Dear Book Clubbers,

Last week’s meeting at Sue K’s to discuss A Town Like Alice was a giant success.  Karla did a great job steering the discussion.  Our rating of the book averaged 3.5 stars.  A giant thank you to Sue for hosting such a large group.

While Sue did not complain about this, I couldn’t help but notice that we continue to have a problem with people not notifying the hostess that they will be attending.  At the risk of sounding repetitious and like I am the book club police, I have to once again remind you to let the hostess know if you will be attending.  I realize that in our busy lives, we don’t always know until a day or two ahead if a particular meeting will really fit in.  Still it only takes a second to notify the hostess via a quick e-mail or phone call.  The reason is so she can plan to make sure there is a butt space for everybody in the room.  Please exercise this common courtesy for future meetings out of consideration of the logistics faced by the hostess.

Our next meeting will be at 7 PM on Wednesday, June 18th at Tara’s house (13 Woodstock).  Please notify Tara if you will be attending.  The book is The Light Between Oceans by M. L. Stedman.  Volunteers are:

Appetizers: Marty, Nancy and Barb

Desserts:  Elizabeth and Shirley

Wine:  Jan, Irene, Jackie, Kathy, Terry, Jen and Karla

In other news, Donna reminded us that TGIF-BYOB gatherings will be held at the pool shelter on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month beginning June 13th.  If possible, bring a snack to pass.

Ina reported that, due to a lack of a quorum at the annual meeting, there will be another budget vote on 6/21.  If you handed in an absentee ballot, you need not resubmit, but all others are asked to vote again.  Perhaps Ina will remind us again when it gets closer.

Finally, the summer picnic meeting is creeping up on us.  It is hard for me to remember, but I think we discussed a couple possibilities for organizers for this meeting.  Has anything been decided in all the meetings I have missed?  If not, I will be reaching out to the potential organizing teams that I think were mentioned privately to see who might be up for pulling our light meal and discussion of The Yonahlossee Riding Camp for Girls by Anton DiSclafani together.  Details to follow.

I think that is it for the moment.  Happy Memorial Day!

Jan
